With just 4 sewing machines and 5 employees, Hamilton Carharrt established his namesake company in 1889 with a very clear goal ' to create products and set a standard of excellence to which all others would aspire.
Carhartt is a company that has grown through some of the toughest times, in the 1930's The Great Depression took its toll on the Carhartt Empire forcing closure of plants leaving just 3 of the original 17 operating. But Carhartt powered on to become the biggest brand in work wear that the world has seen. And although Carhartt died in 1937 at the age of 82, his ethos lives on through the family company.
